Had all our ponies teeth done
today, turns out new pony Dibbs did have a teeth problem as
I thought he might!! Previous dentist (before i got him) had
ground down some too much and not at all at the back!! lots
of sharp horrible bits, plus i was correct in thinking his
bit was too high (I had dropped it down one anyway!) but
there was an issue with his teeth round his bit,
particularly one really sharp pointy one!!) which was making
it really uncomfy for him, hence the pulling down on his
reins and trying to get his tongue over the bit..
Bit now sitting much better, and he can eat with his bit in,
which he couldn't do before, plus had an issue with over
compensating on one side because of his wonky teeth and so
neck not flexing on the left... until George fixed that too
...
amazing stuff, great to know i was right about his bit and
also learn why dropping it hadn't completely solved the
problem too, had half my arm up in Dibbs mouth feeling the
teeth before and after!!!.. plus George too the time to
check his bridle and his bit placement (was right to have
dropped it down one.. phew weee!!) and checked he was all
happy, no where near as much fuss when first putting his bit
in as usual, really nice to have someone who knows confirm
and explain the whys and where-fores to you!
looking forward to riding tomorrow to see if its helped,
just have to be aware of the habits he may have formed from
compensating over a long time, of course not being ridden
for years it probably wasn't an obvious problem for him with
his previous owner
£40 for Dibbs, money well spent, in fact probably cheaper
than getting the vet out to do it, and you get the time of a
real expert.. I wouldn't have anyone else now, I think he
also does days at yards so you can take your horse to him to
save some pennies too, I first met him up at crosswinds in
whitemoor years ago
George is fab and I can highly recommend him, he was so
great with the horses, all the ponies were so good, and if
they got a bit tense he would stop and fuss them, he took
his time so they didn't get nervous or fidget at all, in
fact they all looked like they quite enjoyed it for the
majority of the time, although it was clear when he was
doing those sharp bits on Dibbs, but he was such a brave
boy!!
I have to plug George here, he covers the South West - runs
as Oaklands Equine Dentis - 07739 157898 - 07775 688322 -
leave a message as he's a busy man!! they will ring you back
to arrange a date when he is next in the area :o) you wont
find him online, he's not keen on computers so he tells me!!
All the best
Belinda & Diablo :) xx
